Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a licence to attend training?
Yes. You must hold a valid UK provisional licence with the appropriate motorcycle entitlement (Category A) issued by the DVLA before you can start training.
Is there a guaranteed pass for CBT?
No. CBT is a training course, not a test. Most riders complete it in one day, but if further training is needed, an additional session will be arranged based on individual progress.
Do I need to pass a theory test before CBT?
No. A theory test is not required before attending CBT. However, a basic understanding of the Highway Code is strongly recommended, especially for complete beginners.
I already have a car licence. Can I ride a moped or bike?
If you passed your car test on or after 1 February 2001, you must complete CBT to ride a moped or 125cc motorcycle. This CBT entitlement is valid for two years and must be kept as proof.
If you passed before 1 February 2001, you may already have moped entitlement without CBT, although training is still strongly recommended for safety.
To ride anything up to 125cc, CBT is required unless full motorcycle entitlement is already held.
If you have a full car licence and complete your first CBT, you have full moped entitlement.
I’m an EU licence holder living in the UK. Do I need CBT?
Yes. Unless you have completed a motorcycle test in your home country and exchanged it appropriately, you will need a UK provisional motorcycle licence and must complete CBT before riding on public roads.
How long does CBT take?
CBT typically takes one full day, but there is no fixed duration. Some riders may require additional time or a second session depending on ability and progress. Safety is always the priority.
I’ve never ridden before. Is CBT suitable for me?
Yes. CBT is designed for complete beginners. If you want to learn on a geared motorcycle, we recommend starting with a pre-CBT lesson to build confidence and basic control skills first.
We recommend Pre-CBT for both automatic and manual bikes.
Do I need my own bike or equipment?
No. We provide training motorcycles, mopeds, helmets, gloves, and protective clothing in a range of sizes. Everything required for the course is included.
High-ankle boots or shoes are recommended.
Do I need to bring my physical driving licence?
Yes. You must bring your original driving licence on the day. Photocopies are not accepted. If you have an older paper licence, you must also bring valid photographic ID such as a passport.
Can I fail CBT?
CBT is not a pass-or-fail exam. However, you must demonstrate safe and competent riding. If the required standard is not met, further training will be needed before certification is issued.
Will you teach the Highway Code during CBT?
No. You are expected to have a basic understanding of road rules and signage before attending. Full knowledge is not required, but awareness of the Highway Code is essential for safe riding.
